Hello,

Nice to meet you and thanks for reaching out and offering your help in translating theHunter into Korean.

I am attaching our translators' guidelines, please read through them and let me know whether you agree to them. If you do agree, please forward me your email as well your theHunter name and I'll add you to our translation tool and localization forum.

Best,
Alena
theHunter community manager

Translators' guidelines

EW translators must work within these guidelines.

NDA
As a translator at Expansive Worlds, you're working under an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement), which means that you're not authorised to mention any unreleased information outside of the translation team. Disclosure of unreleased information in any way will be followed by removal from the translation team and might involve suspension of your game account.

General
There are no set amount of hours to translate, you set your speed yourself. However, translators who haven't been active for more than 6 months get removed from the theHunter translation project. If you are going to take a break or be away for a period of time we'd appreciate if you let us know. Once your availability changes and you want to get back to translating, please get in touch with Alena and we'll be happy to reinstate you as a translator.
Usually a language goes live when approximately 80% of the text is translated. After your language has been added to the website and launcher, your translations do not go live automatically once translated, our web team uploads them with every new game patch, which happens on a monthly basis, sometimes more often.
New translation snippets are added regularly, when we have new content (items, species, missions, competitions etc.), so we appreciate if you could check the status of your language from time to time, even if 100% of your language has been translated.
Each language team consists of translators and, in some cases, a proofreader. As a translator, you can translate and vote for translations. A proofreader is usually an experienced and active translator who overlooks the work of the team. Only proofreaders can validate translations. Proofreaders are appointed by Alena, if you think that someone (or yourself) should become a proofreader, please let her know. Although proofreaders can (and are encouraged to) invite new translators to their teams, please always notify Alena before doing so.

Get Started
In order to get started with translating theHunter:
1. Send Alena a PM or an email with your theHunter name and email address
2. You'll receive an invitation to join theHunter project in our translating software Crowdin. You'll be required to create a new account if you don't have one. When registering please use your theHunter name.
3. Once you log in for the first time, please go to your Projects > theHunter. You'll see the list of files, each consisting of the number of strings (snippets of text) to be translated. Click on the file to open the strings and start translating.
4. Make sure to read the Crowdin Translation Tutorial carefully before going on.
5. We recommend you to start with Glossary which contains the most frequent words from all the strings collected. Glossary doesn't appear anywhere in the game but having it translated will make your further work much easier and ensures consistency when there are several translators working on the same language.

Nitty-gritty
Language: Where appropriate, choose informal, colloquial terms over formal or academic ones.
Instead of a word-for-word translation, try finding a similar expression in the your language. If no equivalent can be found, opt for a translation that readers will find the least confusing, even if it is less colorful than the original.
Proper nouns (names of the characters, theHunter, names of reserves and geographical places): Names: If the target language uses a non-Latin alphabet, transliterate. Places, use the name that is most common in your language. Otherwise, transliterate.
Use your language's native punctuation.
Leave all special symbols, like \n\n, %d etc. where they are in the original text. Otherwise the code might get broken.
- "\n" is a line break. The translation must have the same amount as the original otherwise the translation script will throw an error
- "%(variable_name)variabletype" is a variable if you come across something like this DO NOT TRANSLATE IT. Variable names should always be in English otherwise they don't work and we have to do a lot of manual work to fix it. Examples: %(amount)d, %(points).3f & %(mission)s.
- "
" There may be HTML tags in some translations. These should not be translated.
Whenever possible, try to look up the text in the game or on the website to get a better understanding of the context.
If you have any questions regarding the context or the meaning of the source text, please create an issue via Crowdin in the corresponding string (use the comment field on the right hand side and check ¡±Create an issue¡± when submitting your comment).
Always try to keep the amount of characters same or a little bit longer (max. 5-6 characters longer) than the source text, otherwise the design might get broken. If in doubt, always go for a shorter translation, even if it's not that accurate as a longer one.
Translation forum is a good place to discuss the context and any other questions you might have. If you don't have access to it, please contact Alena.
